The fourth annual Women's MMA Top 100 is on its way.
- Sort of -
For the past three years I have compiled and ranked a list of the top 50 female fighters in MMA. Their positions have been based on their win-loss record, level of competition, and achievement in each calendar year.
So why is this year's creation only sort of the fourth annual list? Because this year it will evolve from a top 50 to a top 100.
Each previous year it has become more difficult to cram the most talented women in the sport into the list. Fighters with unblemished annual records often miss out.
"A total of 164 fighters made the final shortlist, forcing agonising consideration before the list was complete. The records of hundreds more were scrutinised and discarded along the way. One thing became abundantly clear, next year it must be a top 100."
That was the promise made this time last year. A top 100 it will be.
The criteria for ranking is simple. Only the fighters’ 2018 records, level of opposition, and performances are taken into consideration. Fighters must have won at least one professional fight in 2017 and have a .500 record or better to make the list.
Last year's edition can be viewed by following the link to MMA-Today here. The 2015 and 2016 rankings will be re-posted on the site, if possible -- thank you archive.org -- as they were published on MMA Latest News which appears to no longer be with us. RIP.
